Amazon Prime 2024
Maybe because there are so many – too many? – options, Amazon Prime day is my time to restock on items I know and love. I know whether the prices actually reflect discounts, for one, and I know that I'll enjoy what I'm getting.
Another angle to this sale: since returns are easy and efficient, it's also a good time to try returnable items. If you've been considering moissanite jewelry, let's go!
Moissanite Jewelry
Moissanites are actually more brilliant than diamonds. They throw rainbows rather than just white light, and they tend to look more milky than colorless diamonds (it depends a lot on the cut). To me, they're not trying to pass for diamonds. They're a more lighthearted take on a white gemstone.
I wear ridiculously large studs daily. They're 3 carats each, or 9mm. The studs I'm sharing have an image for size comparison.
Jeans
I missed out on my own picks from the Nordstrom's sale. I went through all the jeans through Amazon Prime x Shopbop, and here are the best ones that are worth trying on:
Old Money Beach Weekend
Saving money on durable classics is as old money as it gets. Amazon has some items that complement my essential guide to an old money beach weekend.
Sunglasses
Not easy to find frames made out of acetate, but the ones I did find are so good:
Beauty
I love spraying this eucalyptus oil into the shower right before stepping in. It’s relaxing even on days I don’t believe it’ll do anything, and it just feels so luxe. A true treat that I purchased at full price.
If you’re not yet using a Waterpik, this is your sign! There is no beauty without health. Just be warned that the water container ends up leaking when removing it to refill, so I just pour water directly into the Waterpik. I don't experience any leaks.
JM Solution make my favorite sheet masks (here and here). I also purchased this variety pack to try another brand.
A lot of people swear by Stila's waterproof liquid eyeliner pen, but I prefer the $7 pen from LA Girl.
Similarly, I'm including my full-priced epilator because the one on sale is priced higher yet is harder to clean and has a power button that's prone to be pushed accidentally. Pass.
So now we need to prevent ingrown hair, and I love the Amlactin cream for that and nothing else: it's a pain to spread, takes a while to absorb, and smells a bit acrid. But it's really effective at preventing ingrowns without drying my skin, and the smell does dissipate.
If you're just looking for an exfoliating body moisturizer, the Gold Bond is much more elegant, and I sometimes use on my face and hands because it's that silky and rich.
Multitaskers: The CosRX lip mask also subdues acne that's at the peeling stage; just dab a bit, and your skin will be ready for concealer. I apply the Cerave ointment to my cuticles before bedtime to wake up to a passive manicure. I also use it on my toenails, with socks dedicated to foot mask duty (I cut off the cuff to ease circulation).
Home
My beloved Tineco vacuum/mop is at the lowest price I've seen it. It's a joy to use, and I'd gladly pay full price for it. I bought the spin scrubber on a whim, and it's actually good. It doesn't perform miracles like Tineco, but it does speed up basic cleaning.
I'm including my Jiffy clothes steamer as reference. I would advise against flimsy, hand-held steamers. I always always look at steaming set ups at stores, and I've been wanting a vertical steamer pad for months, thinking it must be a pro piece of equipment. Amazon has on over-the-door one for $16. I use rubber gloves when I steam.
